CANCELLED: 10th Annual Back to School Picnic due to Inclement Weather

Alderman Willie B. Cochran has chosen to cancel the upcoming 10th Annual Back to School and Family Picnic as a precaution due to forecasted inclement weather. Local weather forecasts are predicting severe thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day on Saturday, August 20, 2016, with winds up to 20 mph.

The decision to cancel was not taken lightly, and Alderman Cochran wishes to thank all the partner organizations, vendors, and sponsors for their willingness to be part of the 10th Annual celebration of children’s return to school. “After nine successful years, mother nature has decided to change the program. I am grateful for our previous successes, but ensuring the safety of all in attendance must be our first priority,” Alderman Cochran said.

The 20th Ward Office will be distributing school supplies and book bags to the 23 schools in the ward, community organizations, and churches. Donations of snacks and refreshments will be distributed to community events, block parties, and school carnivals scheduled for the upcoming weeks.
